beneath the still waters of lonely sound there lays the ruins of howland abbey, its 3000lb bell still hanging in the belfry, only swayed by the currents of the regular tides across the estuary, over 100 years since it was rang by the order of carthusian monks who lived in the nearby priory. at the turn of the last century during a heavy storm the abbey was plundered by an unknown gang of marauders, as they left on horseback carrying with them all the gold from the abbey the sea defences around lonely sound were breached, flooding the abbey, priory and the surrounding land, the monks ran for dry land as they watched their beloved bell tower disappear beneath the rising waters, unable to chase the thieves, cut off as the water rose around them. some locals say these ransackers were in league with the elements, some say they had just intentionally damaged the sea defences before making their raid. local folk-law claims that the morning bells of the abbey can be heard ring out from beneath the murky waters of the sound every year on the anniversary of the great storm, ringing the peel that was never rung.

the latest crimes of the future comes from dimitri distant and lvrin, two emergent artists with a penchant for pitch black grooves steeped in the kind of acidic, wavey styles that cotf are consistently striking gold with. -blasphemy- is a powerful slice of reductionist acid that uses a bare minimum of elements to create a sinister atmosphere to strike fear into the hearts of unwitting dancers. -dead sunday- is no slouch in the creepy department either, its clattering beats and bubbly acid line straining against a tape-stretched backdrop of synthesizer malaise. -achromatic- switches stance to slow, undead electro soaked in embalming fluid and filtered through a b-movie veil for maximum guttural impact.

chicago house legend mystic bill joins crimes of the future with two straight up jacking house tracks with bonus instrumental and a mind bending remix by scott fraser. bill torres needs little introduction to those fans of the original chicago movement in the late 1980 s and 1990 s, he produced a string of 12inches for the likes of trax and relief records whilst playing and holding down dj residences in some of the citties best loved venues. after remixing scott fraser s no word of truth release last year on his dx recordings label his first full solo release on crimes of the future has arrived.the a cut frequency 9 is a rolling jacker with rattling percussion and dark synth stabs to dement the warehouse dancefloor and very much in the line of bills trademark style. a2 sees fraser return the remix favour delivering a massive floor bumping remix adding all new drums, 303 and huge bassline giving a nod to the classic sound of those sex trax/ power music 12s from the 1990 s with his 11 minute mind control remix. the frequency cannot be controlled! side b has both the original and a bonus intrumental of the ship is sinking, a dark slice of jacking house complete with real tension and total mastery of the sampler for those able to spot it.

crimes of the future is the kind of label you can trust, no matter who is at the controls. the same could be said for giallo disco, and certainly the two labels orbit a similar space for lurid soundtrack-inspired hardware jams from the italo age. vercetti technicolor is one half of the giallo team alongside antoni maiovvi, and here steps out with a perfectly bombastic range of compositions that revel in b-movie brilliance. -golden taurus- is the perfect slow-burner, those mono bass notes warming like no soft synth ever could, while -topaz fear- brings a more action-driven sequence into the mix. -death wish- too opts for a pumped up club scenario, while heinrich dressel smokes out -golden taurus- into a seedy slow-jam.

crimes of the future rounds off the year in fine style with an absolutely essential ep from twins. 3 moody us house cuts straught out of atlanta and a sublime deep remix from label boss scott fraser. opening up with cause of dissociation, a slice of banging chicago house that would not have been out of place in the hands of mike dunn at the warehouse. rattling drums amd percussion a cut up vocal and a killer bassline make for dancefloor devastation. next up -you take too- takes things a little deeper, maintining the groove with chicago inspired percussion and filtered drums and stabbing synths grooving the track along. over on side b scott fraser takes -you take too- on to 5am on a dark smoke filled dancefloor, with a deep bassline and soaring strings. adding additional percussion, keys and swirling echoes... could be the sound of a lost nu groove classic. finally things close out with -a way from now- with more chicago inspired goodness with a funky bassline, pumping percussion and eerie ethereal keys rounding the ep off in fine style.

tapan are from belgrade, hosts to disco not disco and now delivering two slow psychedelic techno bomb s to crimes of the future s letterbox. we first met nebjosa and the crew when we played at drug store in belgrade for them in early 2014. upon receiving these we knew they had crimes written all over them. on volumes we have two very special remixes of an already heavy original starting with willie burns taking them into the streets of manchester in the early 90 s and spending a night on at the hacienda with no thought of the gentrification approaching. drvcvltvre is the second provider and in true style switches out the lights and a spectre looms over the dancefloor dripping acid on the dancers below. the ep closes with whos there? featuring the brain melting guitars of vladimir djordjevic. quite a debut we think.

haunted doorbell are timothy j. fairplay and matilda tristram who released xylophone together last year on astro lab recordings. picking up where xylophone left off unconnected thoughts on jacking is four tracks of naive melodies, rough slamjack drums, and new age atmospheres. starclash kicks off side a, with its dramatic arpeggios and sid chip crashes, techno to soundtrack the saturday night laser show at the planetarium. following is a night of adventure with its eastern scales and washy broken chorus unit hiss. on side b we have beautiful sheffield - an ode to electronic musics (possibly) most important british city and the title track rounds of the ep - house music for listening to while looking out to sea.

the cronenberg referencing crimes of the future label from messrs. fairplay and fraser gathers further pace on their second release, looking across the atlantic and focussing on the enigmatic works of elizabeth merrick jefferson. from her detroit base, jefferson has one previous release to call on in the shape of the urban off road 12 inch for the argot label. the promise demonstrated there is explored further within the context of this four track quetzalcoatl 12 inch for cotf, expounding colourful take on detroit house filled with rich star gazing qualities that would attract the attention of timothy and scott.

crimes of the future is a new label from timothy j fairplay & scott fraser, and follows on from their night of the same name at the berkeley suite, glasgow and in plastic people, london. timothy and scott both work out of andrew weatheralls basement bunker studio on scrutton street and are part of a group of djs becoming known as the scrutton street axis. timothy is also one half of the asphodells with andrew weatherall who released their first album *ruled by passion, destroyed by lust* this year on rotters golf club.

emotional especial and cocktail d amore music enter cahoot-mode once again with a second round of sfire remixes that take proceedings down a deeper, more stripped-back path courtesy of the inimitable timothy j fairplay and willie burns. two artists who need little introduction offer up two remixes each that take the unique original to new dance floor extremes. timothy steps up first with his take on -sfire 2- via differing vocal and instrumental versions. his trademark, echo laden rolling percussion and john carpenter-style key lines take the original synth-pop homage to the dark room. adding arps, a lifting, hedonistic breakdown and the scatter-stepper drums and claps found on the instrumental version and this is pure cotf territory and the better for it. mr willie burns meanwhile has long followed his own path for his take on -sfire 3-, offering one of his deepest remixes to date. thudding kick, brooding pads and dark strings force the vocals to go down, way down for examination. the distorted vocals of remix 1 are countered by remix 2 letting the track shine via a seemingly endless 4/4 beat. psychedelic, trance inducing, pulsating, this is an ever growing mind expanse.
